Earlier today, part way through a gruelling 160km group ride, the entire LifeCycle team met at the Renal Unit at Mater Dei hospital, where LifeCycle chairman Alan Curry formally presented the Unit with five automated peritoneal dialysis machines.
The Minister for Health, Hon. Dr Joseph Cassar, and the CEO of Mater Dei Hospital Ms Marion Rizzo gave short speeches, and the Head of the Renal Unit Tony Bugeja (who is also a founder member of the LifeCycle Organisation) explained how the machines significantly improve the quality of life of renal patients, by enabling them to perform dialysis overnight while sleeping at home, leaving them free to pursue their normal activities (work, school, etc) during the day.
These machines were bought with funds raised from the 2009 Betfair LifeCycle Challenge, and will play a key role in the vital work of the Renal Unit.
